I always find that adding some texture to my cards makes them more interesting. There are lots of techniques you can use to create texture. Why not do a technique that you love with supplies you have on hand?

Simply create your own background with a couple of stamps from your favorite stamp sets and do some tone-on-tone heat embossing.

This adds texture and shine to your project for a win-win background.

The stamps in the September Hedgehog Hollow kit work especially well for this technique because they were all designed with lots of swirly bits in the design. I love how this background turned out and how subtle it is.

You can add more of the images and color them in with your inks or markers to finish off the card.

I also added some splatter in white with the new Snow Flurries ink pad or reinker.

This has always been one of my favorite techniques. I use it more intentionally for a subtle background by heat embossing in black, on black cardstock.
