I recently saw a blog post from card maker Kristina Werner that blew my socks off! I wanted to recreate the card using a different stamp set.

I call this Shadow Masking Technique because by using the mask you are able to blend ink around the stamped image, thus making it stand out even more.

Card instructions

This card is fairly easy to create. I choose Maker Forte’s Mercury card stock because of it deep red color and for its shimmery tone to it.

I used the Poinsettia stamp and heat embossed the image in two opposite corners. Once that was complete, I heat embossed the sentiment in the middle. The sentiment came from the Wrapped Christmas Sentiment stamp set.

Then I stamped the poinsettia on Gina K Designs Masking Magic paper and fussy cut out the image. I did this twice for both images on the cardfront.

Then place the mask over the embossed images. I choose a dark brown color to ink blend. At first I tried different red inks from the Tim Holtz Distressed Ink Collection but they were not standing out enough for my taste so I decided to use Espresso Grounds.

I glued the card front down with Lawn Fawn Glue on to some Neenah Solar White Classic Crest 110lb paper for the card base. Then embellished the card with some pretty cream color Rhinestones from PinkFresh Studios.

I think the card came out pretty and was so excited to come across Kristina Werner’s beautiful slimline card. You can view her video here.
